Despite scoring the opener in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Milan, Wesley Fofana was unable to finish the game, having had to come off due to injury soon after.

This was a blow to the Frenchman, who spent most of last season injured with a fibula fracture, although that didn’t prevent him from getting his big move from Leicester to Stamford Bridge over the summer.

There were some worries the Chelsea player could be out for some time, but it appears the news is better than first hoped.

That’s what L’Equipe are reporting on Thursday afternoon, saying that while the pictures of him coming off the pitch suggested a serious setback, the medical checks done on him Thursday afternoon are ‘rather reassuring’.

While the exact amount of time the Chelsea defender will miss is ‘still uncertain’, the doctors who did them ‘estimate that it will be around four weeks’.

Therefore, despite not being picked by Didier Deschamps during the latest international, his dreams of making the World Cup squad are still alive.

Fofana has so far made four appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, scoring one goal, which came against Milan on Wednesday night.
