It’s not even June and the transfer window seems to have eaten itself already.

This morning we’ve already covered a claim Tottenham are preparing a £25m offer, for a player who has a £11m release clause, and now it’s Everton’s turn for a headache inducing rumour.

Seville regional sport newspaper Estadio Deportivo are usually pretty good on rumours for their local club, and on Tuesday morning they go with a headline saying ‘Luis Muriel, in the orbit of Everton’.

Luis Muriel is a 27 year old Colombian striker who plays for Sevilla. He scored nine goals and made two assists this season and was in and out of the team.

Estadio Deportivo believe he’s done reasonably well considering it was his first season in La Liga, but not quite well enough to block a sale. It’s explained the player’s €22m price (what Sevilla paid to Sampdoria) has weighed heavily upon him, and they insinuate fans like bringing it up in a negative way.

Therefore, if a ‘succulent’ offer arrives, he could go, and the newspaper add: ‘According to Transfermarkt, Everton has asked for him. There is a meeting pending for Sandro with the Toffees, so it would not be surprising if his name came up.’

Off to Transfermarkt we went. The German website is a statistical one, with general information about footballers. They simply list the odd rumours, and don’t launch them.

For Muriel, they say Everton were interested in July 2017. Not now.
