Everton were one of many clubs to send a scout to the match between Gent and Zulte Waregem over the weekend. Over the past year the Merseyside club have been sending scouts repeatedly to watch games in Belgium and France.
Even with the change in manager, the brief still seems to be the same, with Everton appearing to be following young, fast, flexible attackers. Diego Rolan is one of several who have been linked after scouting trips, and the next one may well be Moses Simon.
‘Next’ may well be misleading, because Everton have been briefly and weakly linked previously, but after what they saw at the weekend, serious interest would be no surprise.
Moses Simon was the star of the show for Gent and is the talk of the Belgian media. He scored in a 3-0 victory and Het Nieuwsblad newspaper say the player ‘excelled’ and have a feature on him in their Monday edition.
A flexible attacker, who can play straight upfront, or out on the left, the 21 year old is both footed and presents a variety of options to a manager. Already a full international with Nigeria, a work permit shouldn’t be a problem for an English club buying him.
Everton’s scout will absolutely have been impressed, even if there was no interest before, but Moses Simon managed to turn it on when more than 20 clubs had an official watching the game, so wider interest is likely too.
