After defeating Burnley in August, Fulham went without a win until the last international break, which forced them to sack their manager Slaviša Jokanović.
Claudio Ranieri was appointed as his successor in November and the Cottagers registered a 3-2 victory over Southampton in his first match in charge.
The Italian coach has the experience of managing in the Premier League, having previously held the position at Chelsea and Leicester City.
During a lengthy interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 67-year-old admitted that he was excited to return to England’s top flight club competition.
“Yup. I wanted to come back, but it was right to get away for some time with another experience. Nantes was a nice opportunity,” he said.
Ranieri’s task is to improve his current side so that they can move out of the relegation zone as Fulham sit at the bottom of the table with eight points after 13 games.
“Now I’m here and I’ll give it my all to save Fulham. The path will be hard and difficult, but I’m sure we will succeed. The team has a good base. We just have to correct something,” the English club’s manager added.
When further quizzed on the reasons behind Fulham’s poor form this season, Ranieri said: “The defensive phase and the general approach. With the players I was clear: I want people running and fighting.”
“There is passion and enthusiasm. President Shahid Khan is a volcano. The moustache of Salvador Dali makes it even nicer.”
Fulham’s next two fixtures are against Chelsea and Leicester, the two clubs he managed in the past.
