Ralf Rangnick has been assigned the task of signing Erling Haaland for Manchester United and promised €10m if he pulls it off.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say there is a ‘clear plan’ behind the appointment of the German, and that is to get Haaland to Old Trafford.
Haaland, as you’ll be aware, is up for auction next summer as he has a release clause in his current contract set for between €70-90m.
That’s considered a bargain price given the player in question and all the big clubs in Europe are thought to be vying for his signature.
Earlier today, though, it was reported that Rangnick could use his personal relationship with the Haaland family, which he developed when taking Haaland to RB Salzburg, to Manchester United’s advantage.
SportBILD now pick up on that and explain that there is a specific reason he is keen to make that happen; Manchester United have promised him a big sum if he pulls it off.
According to their information, if Rangnick manages to pull of the ‘super deal’, he will be paid ‘handsomely’ for his efforts as United have written a €10m bonus into his contract.
They also provide further information on his relationship with the striker’s family, explaining that Rangnick sat down at the negotiating table with Alf Inge Haaland and Mino Raiola, who act as his agents, on several occasions in the winter of 2019/20.
At the time, he was the Global Sports Director of RB Leipzig, and it’s stated that the ‘chemistry’ between all three parties was ‘right’.
So, if he can use that to his advantage and convince Haaland to move to Manchester United, they’re willing to pay him a ‘princely‘ €10m as a reward, on top of the £6.5m they’re already paying him for the contract he’s signed.
It’s felt that Haaland only actually ended up at Borussia Dortmund because he was not a part of the ‘decisive negotiations’ at the time, and that led to him slipping through his and RB Leipzig’s fingers.
He’s determined to ensure that doesn’t happen for a second time and his superiors at Old Trafford are willing to pay big if he can.
