Yesterday was a very big day for Marseille fans as it was announced their club would change ownership later on this year.

An agreement was found between Frank McCourt, former LA Dodgers owner, and Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, and hope of a return to former heights started to form around social media.

While the takeover is expected to be sealed towards the end of the year, Marseille are still having to negotiate this transfer window on a tight budget, which why free transfers and loans are the main source of incoming players.

According to L’Equipe, Rod Fanni, who recently cancelled his contract with his former Qatari club Al-Arabi, is looking likely to sign for his former club, with Rolando going through the exit door (Greece is an option).

One team who looks set to miss out on yet another defender, though, is Rangers FC.

According to Le10 Sport, who claim Rod Fanni will sign a two year deal with Marseille before Wednesday, the 34-year-old rejected everyone else’s offer for a return to the south of France.

The French website claim a move to the Ibrox was one of the moves discarded in favour of Marseille.

Le10 Sport say that, with all the turmoil in Marseille, a move to a ‘mythical club’ like Rangers FC would have been a great adventure to end his career, but the Stade Velodrome’s call was louder than that of Glasgow.

It seems Rangers, who also saw a deal for Joleon Lescott cancelled, seem very unfortunate to have lost out on the signing of Fanni, but when ‘home’ comes calling, you listen to your heart.

Just ask Paul Pogba.
