Hurriyet claim Rangers are still interested in signing Martin Skrtel but Fenerbahce are ready to offer the defender a contract extension.

The Slovakia international was linked with a move to Rangers in the last window and the possibility of a reunion with his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard.

In the past week claims Skrtel he could be heading to Ibrox have resurfaced as Gerrard looks to bolster his squad in the new year. The Rangers boss lost David Bates in the summer to Hamburg and the Fenerbahce player looks again to be an option for the Scottish Premiership side.

However, Hurriyet report the Turkish club are hoping to continue with him for the next two seasons. The Turkish newspaper say Rangers still want to sign the central defender but Fenerbahce are ready to open talks with the Slovakian in January.

It’s claimed Fenerbahce president Ali Koc and the club’s sporting director Damien Comolli are keen to continue with the player but whether Skrtel will take pay cut is unknown at this stage.

Skrtel is currently one of the highest earners and the Istanbul club may be hoping he takes a drop in wages if he extends his contract.
