Following the success of his move at Rangers under Steven Gerrard, it’s easy to forget that Ianis Hagi spent a while struggling in Italian football.
Signed from FC Viitorul by Fiorentina, the attacking midfielder spent a year and a half in Florence, making just two appearances, before being bought back by the Romanian side.
This led to his eventual move to RKC Genk in 2019, with the rest, meaning his loan and subsequent transfer to Ibrox, being history.
His performances under Gerrard at Rangers certainly haven’t gone unnoticed, and La Lazio Siamo Noi report on Tuesday that Igli Tare, a big admirer of the Romania international, hasn’t forgotten about him.
They explain that despite the Scottish Premiership champions spending big on keeping him at the club, his ‘stay in Scotland is not a foregone conclusion’, as Hagi ‘hopes to take off to land in the most important leagues, with Lazio obviously being a welcome destination’.
With Tare following him in the past, it’s stated that the Romanian ‘can become a name to consider’ should the Serie A side forego their option to make Andreas Pereira’s loan from Manchester United a permanent deal.
‘No contact has been made’ as of yet, but he remains ‘one of the many profiles Lazio follow on the market’.
The belief is that Hagi is ‘valued around €10m and is followed by several Premier League clubs’, but with Lazio ‘never having stopped paying attention to him’, he could very well be embroiled in a transfer saga back to Italian football come the summer.
