Rangers FC defender Calvin Bassey has held a phone call with Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder about a move this summer.
That’s according to both Voetbal International and De Telegraaf, who both say the Ibrox star has spoken ‘exclusively’ to the Ajax manager.
Reports in England have today made it clear Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s man is a potential target for the Dutch giants, who are set to sell Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United.
That will leave a huge hole in a team that has already been picked apart this summer, and it is likely they will enter the market to find a replacement for the Argentine.
Bassey is now a target after impressing with Rangers in the Europa League last season, and talks are reportedly underway over a deal.
The Dutch newspapers back this up, stating that Ajax have Bassey ‘in mind’ as they have followed him ‘for a long time’.
According to their information, he has already spoken to Schreuder about the switch, with VI stating the Ajax boss is ‘charmed’ by the 22-year-old.
That would suggest Ajax are very keen to get a deal done with Rangers, who are likely to demand around €25m before they will sanction a deal.
