Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has denied he’s ever supported Celtic despite rumours he has in the past. The 34-year-old arrived in Glasgow this summer to sign a two-year deal with the Ibrox club.
Speaking to this months’ edition of FourFourTwo (subscribe here), Barton was asked if he still supported Celtic even though he’s signed for this arch rivals Rangers. The former England international confirmed he’s never supported Celtic because he’s always been an Everton fan.
The Rangers star believes if you are a true football fan then you should only support one club, and subsequently his alliances have always with Everton.
“I don’t think I’ve ever supported Celtic. I’m a born and bred Evertonian and I’ve not met any true football fan who supports two teams,” said the former Burnley player.
Barton came through the Everton youth system, but was released by the club. Not too undeterred, Barton came through the Manchester City academy, and has since enjoyed a varied career before joining Rangers in the last transfer window.
