Rangers came close to signing Amiens’ Bongani Zungu in August, but a deal never materialsed.

Reports coming out of France from two months ago suggested the midfielder’s ‘physical condition’ was the reason the move was stalled.

France Football once again explains the 27-year-old came close to moving to Ibrox before being turned down for medical examinations because he was ‘overweight’.

Zungu was left out of Amiens’ squad for the first four matches, but has returned to action and made appearances from the bench in the last two Ligue 2 fixtures. Hs future, however, could be away from his current employer and with Rangers.

Amiens, who were relegated from the Ligue 1 last season, are set to be busy on the last day of the transfer window.

It’s claimed Steven Gerrard’s side have not cooled their interest in the South Africa international as they have ‘restarted negotiations’ with the French club for his signing.

As per the report, Rangers and Amiens are now ‘close to an agreement’ after finding a ‘new common ground’ for Zungu’s transfer.

The player has also attracted interest from Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor, but France Football states Zungu is ‘again close to Rangers’.
