Glasgow Rangers are ‘on the verge’ of completing a move for Schalke forward Rabbi Matondo after the two clubs struck a deal.
That’s according to Sport 1, who say the 21-year-old is ‘expected’ to play in Scotland next season.
They explain that Matondo returned to Schalke from a loan deal with Cercle Brugge this summer but appears to be packing his bags for a new move already.
According to Sport 1’s information, Schalke have ‘reached an agreement’ with Rangers for a deal worth around €3m.
Talks between Giovani van Bronckhorst’s side and Matondo ‘will now begin’, but by all accounts, he is ‘on the verge’ of leaving the German side.
He’s one of several players in the squad who have no future in Gelsenkirchen as Schalke want to ‘get him off the payroll’, especially as he’s entering the final year of his contract and will be a free agent next summer.
It now remains to be seen if he will join them at their training camp in Mittersill or if he can reach an agreement with Rangers before then.
Schalke are set to travel to that camp on July 11th, so there is a rush for the player to find an agreement with Rangers and move to Ibrox before then.
