Rangers are interested in Hereenveen midfielder Joey Veerman, but face competition from PSV Eindhoven, Atalanta and Stade Reims.
That’s according to Voetbalzone, who say that all four clubs are ‘in the market’ for the 22-year-old this summer.
Veerman has been impressive in the Eredivisie this season, with seven goals and nine assists in 28 league games so far, and that’s what will have caught the attention of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.
It’s an impressive tally for a player who predominantly plays as a defensive midfielder and has earned him attention from outside the Netherlands.
Rangers are one of those to have been named as an interested party, with reports in Scotland stating that Gerrard has his eye on the 22-year-old as he looks to bolster his title-winning squad.
Voetbalzone back that up today and state that Rangers are one of several clubs who are ‘in the market’ for Veerman.
This is stated as the website presents PSV Eindhoven as another interested party, with Roger Schmidt having recently admitted he is ‘charmed’ by the midfielder.
They would be serious competition for Rangers, who, according to De Telegraaf journalist Valentijn Driessen, might not be the best move for Veerman anyway.
“I can imagine that Veerman is an interesting player for PSV. Joey Veerman just has to stay in the Netherlands,” the website report him saying.
“He is very homesick. That is one of the reasons why he is never selected for the national side.
“He has played once for the Netherland Under 21s. After that, they didn’t need to select him because he had other things on his mind during the international weeks.
“No, this is the story behind it, of course. So PSV would be a great challenge for him, to see if he can reach that level.”
