As Rangers try to get Gijs Smal signed from FC Twente, we get to see some different claims about how Philippe Clement’s chase has been going.

One of the reports, the latest, comes from Dutch outlet Voetbal International. They say the Ibrox side indeed ‘registered’ their interest in the player by making an approach.

As his contract with Twente expires at the end of the season, he’s said to be looking for a big contract, and Rangers apparently show up as an option.

Meanwhile, reports from Turkey are a little ahead of that, and maybe of the general situation. Those come from Orçun Ak, who has been following Galatasaray’s chase to sign Rıdvan Yılmaz from Rangers.

The journalist claims the two operations are connected, and on Twitter, states that Rangers already have an agreement to get Smal signed from Twente.

That’s still to be confirmed by the Dutch media, though, so we may wait a little until buying that story.

It seems Rangers could be completing both operations in the coming days, and that would be an interesting turnaround for the end of the January transfer window.
