O Jogo today refreshingly take the step of admitting they have made a mistake in a transfer story recently, and it was one involving Philippe Clement’s Rangers.
It’s an unusual step to take, and they backtrack on reporting Rangers and Strasbourg both made €15m offers for FC Porto’s Gonçalo Borges. Clement’s side did make an offer, worth €6m, whereas the French club put €5m forward.
As annoyed as O Jogo are with themselves for getting the figures wrong, they appear more annoyed with Rangers and Strasbourg.
Those offers are described as ‘ridiculous proposals’ considering the winger’s level, that he’s 23-years-of-age, and that he has a contract lasting until June 2027.
Over at Record, another Portuguese newspaper, it’s insisted the two naughty step clubs will have to ‘open their purses much more’. Despite the early bad blood, talks are continuing.
Record say the player himself is quite happy with Porto and will only consider leaving, for Ibrox or anywhere else, if the deal is irresistible for all involved. They add the youngster has been one of the revelations of Porto’s preseason training.
Gonçalo Borges hasn’t fully broken through at Porto yet, which will be why Rangers and Strasbourg offered what they did.
