Rangers have set their sights on Fluminense’s Jhon Arias and his displays have attracted the attention of Philippe Clement’s side, according to a report from South America.
The Colombia international joined the Brazilian club from Santa Fe in 2021, and has been a regular for them since 2022. He scored 33 goals and registered 36 assists in 155 games, including five goals and two assists in 15 games this year.
Journalist Christian Martin, relayed by AS in Colombia, claims Atlético Madrid are looking at the 21-year-old and are joined by Rangers in the transfer race.
Los Rojiblancos have already asked about the winger, who can operate in other attacking positions as well as a wing-back. His profile, form and versatility have pleased the La Liga side, who could sign him for a fee between €15m and €17m.
The journalist claims the Madrid club could face competition from the UK, where Rangers are keen on securing the versatile player’s services.
Philippe Clement’s side are impressed with the South American’s pace, his good feet and the ability to handle tight spaces. Martin adds Rangers believe he has the technique and qualities that’ll suit European football.
Philippe Clement’s side could be set for a battle with Atlético to sign Arias in the summer window. His deal lasts until 2026 and Transfermarkt value him at €12m.
Martin makes no mention if Arias or Fluminense are open to doing business with Rangers or another club.
