Rangers have set their sights on Hammarby IF’s Nathaniel Adjei and Philippe Clement’s side could soon make an approach for him, according to a report from Sweden.

In the winter market, FC Lorient took the defender on loan with a purchase option, but they are unlikely to exercise it after their relegation from the Ligue 1.

Expressen say the 21-year-old is set to leave Hammarby, and Rangers and Anderlecht have now emerged as his options.

It’s claimed both Rangers and the Jupiler Pro League side have informed the Swedish club that they want to buy the centre-back in the summer window.

Philippe Clement’s side and Anderlecht are expected to table a bid ‘shortly’ for the Ghana U23 international. According to Expressen, Rangers and the Belgian club’s initial proposals should be around SEK 45-50m [£3.4-3.7m].

Adjei has two years left on his deal and the report says Hammarby are requesting a fee closer to SEK 67m [£5m] to sanction his sale. Expressen are not certain if Rangers are willing to meet that request.

The defender arrived in Sweden when he joined lower division side Hammarby Talang FF in 2021 and then moved to Hammarby IF on a permanent transfer a year later.
