Rangers defender Robin Pröpper has admitted it was “wonderful” to beat Celtic, particularly as his family had predicted they would.

The 31-year-old has been speaking to Voetbal International about the recent win over Brendan Rodgers’ side at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement’s side ran out 3-0 winners over the Scottish champions five day ago, with a thoroughly dominant and unforeseen display.

Goals from Ianis Hagi, Pröpper and Danilo secured all three points in the game in front of a raucous Ibrox, who had not seen such a dominant display from Rangers over Celtic in quite some time.

For Pröpper, who joined Rangers in a €3.2m deal from Twente in August last year, it was a first taste of victory over Celtic at the second attempt.

Few would have predicted the result given the relative form of the two sides and the fact that they are currently separated by 13 points at the top of the Scottish Premiership at this moment in time.

Pröpper’s family, though, were full of confidence before the meeting at Ibrox and it seems that made victory all the more sweeter for Pröpper afterwards.

“My father and my brother said beforehand that I was going to score,” he said.

“They started filming exactly at that one corner. My first goal for Rangers… Hanging together from happiness of course. The plan was that I had to fight out duels at the far post on corners, but the ball happened to fall at my feet.

“It was all beautiful. The atmosphere, the victory, also scoring. The sound was amazing, especially after every goal. You close yourself off to it, you have to. Only after the 3-0 was I able to look around me for the first time and experience everything consciously. So cool.”
