The sight of Ramiro Funes Mori being wheeled off the pitch in La Paz is a worrying one for Everton.

Ronald Koeman may not have been able to call on the defender for the Liverpool derby anyway, such are the demands of playing at Bolivia’s high altitude ground, but the Everton manager would have chanced his luck with that rather than a knee injury.

Funes Mori was driven off on a cart during the first half, and there have been worries in the Argentine press that it’s a serious injury. Thankfully, Argentine newspaper Ole! say the first diagnosis suggests meniscus damage.

Meniscus damage isn’t a good thing, but it’s a better diagnoses than a cruciate tear. Should the diagnoses be confirmed, then Funes Mori could be fit in two to four weeks.

That’s for a slight meniscus tear which wouldn’t require surgery. Should it be a more serious issue and the Everton player require surgery to remove part of his meniscus then the Screen Shot 2017-03-29 at 11.17.17recovery time is five to eight weeks, and in the worst case scenario a full surgical repair would mean an absence of three to four months.

Ole! don’t think it’s serious, so Everton should be looking on the optimistic side of the scale.

How the injury happened is unclear, but the Argentine newspaper say the pitch in La Paz was poor and Funes Mori went down clutching his face and clearly in pain.
