Newcastle United have once again been referenced as one of the clubs with a serious interest in signing Sandro Ramirez from Malaga this summer. Leaving Barcelona on a free transfer last year, Sandro was in a position of power when he signed for Malaga, and therefore able to demand high wages and a low release clause.
That clause is just €6m, which would be an easy fee for Newcastle to stump up on their return to the Premier League. Newcastle have been linked with Sandro for a few weeks, and, in their Sunday edition, AS name them as one of the chasing pack.
Newcastle interest has never appeared overly serious, and the club have never really looked to be one of the frontrunners. When clubs such as Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, and Everton are pushing for Sandro, it makes it complicated for Newcastle.
Rafael Benitez may have big plans at St James’ Park, but they’re still a newly promoted club.
There’s every chance the Sandro links have come purely because of Benitez, with the club’s name thrown in because of the Spanish connection.
