As FC Porto continue their hunt for Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba, there’s some good news for the Dragons today.

Local newspaper O Jogo writes a story saying Magpies manager Rafa Benitez is so sure he won’t count on the player for next season that he told him not to return to the club this summer.

The outlet claims that Mbemba remains training on his own, and isn’t joining Newcastle’s squad for the preparations for the season.

Meanwhile, Porto still can’t match the demands made by the Premier League side. O Jogo claims that the difference is still ‘significant’.

That’s a bit of a contradiction. Several reports from the Portuguese press have been claiming that Porto already have a personal agreement with Mbemba, and whilst offer €7m for the defender, Newcastle demand €9m.

Portuguese clubs love some drama when spending money on players, although it’s a totally different story when it’s them who are selling.
