After selling Ederson in a €40m deal to Manchester City, Benfica are still working on signing a replacement for him.

Lukas Hradecky and Jeroen Zoet are two of the options the Eagles have on the table, but according to A Bola today, they now have a third one, and it comes from Newcastle United.

A Bola claim that a few days ago, one of Benfica’s representatives contacted Newcastle to learn the possibility of signing Tim Krul. And the answer was pretty positive.

The Dutchman is said to be keen on playing more regularly due to his wish to have a spot at the 2018 World Cup, and manager Rafael Benítez would see no problems in his exit.

From the financial point of view, Newcastle United are said to be demanding €5m for the sale, and Krul’s desire to join the Portuguese side means he wouldn’t make it difficult when negotiating his salary. The Dutchman would be fine to accept what Benfica can pay.

A Bola claims Benfica now have to wait for Newcastle to convince their supporters that the departure is the best thing for club and player, because even without playing, Krul is still a fan favourite.

That may be talking up Krul’s standing among Newcastle United fans.
