Marcel Brands has spoken a couple of times recently about the general wish to keep Andre Gomes at Everton beyond the end of this season, and so has manager Marco Silva.

Those quotes have since been recycled and presented as new so many times that one could be mistaken and think Brands is talking about the midfielder every day.

The fresh reports continue to be picked up by the Catalan media, and so does the impression Gomes is making at Goodison Park. Popular with fans before he even got on the pitch, the Portuguese international has only furthered that bond with his performances.

Given how much Barcelona hyped the player’s 2016 arrival from Valencia, beating Real Madrid in the process, at this stage it could be expected the Catalan media would be pondering a triumphant return, with Gomes having rebuilt his confidence.

But that’s not the case, as Mundo Deportivo publish another report on a potential Everton stay. There’s no hint of Gomes staying at Barca beyond his Everton loan, and that’s probably because of how difficult he found the pressure at the club.

This is good news for Everton, and Mundo explain the player has enjoyed a ‘radical turnaround’ since moving to England.

There’s been no figures mentioned yet, but Barcelona will hope Gomes can continue to impress so they can get a good fee back.

Everton paid more for Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina than Barca initially expected to get, so the route will be a favoured one.
