Tottenham fans, let’s take you back to the beginning of the summer, back when you were still looking for a manager and Fabio Paratici had been freshly appointed as the new director of football at the club.
A lot has happened since, including a number of signings, but one player Spurs were linked with quite a lot never moved: Lorenzo Insigne.
With his contract at Napoli expiring at the end of the current season, the winger was a potential target for a lot of big clubs, but no transfer took place, and he is now a key part of his team’s great start to the season under Luciano Spalletti.
Back in June, journalist Ciro Venerato claimed he had spoken to Paratici directly, and was told that Insigne ‘will not land in the Premier League’.
That proved to be true, and while there were rumours that Tottenham were keen on the forward, that was never anything concrete, as explained by Paolo Bargiggia on 1 Station Radio, relayed by CalcioNapoli1926.
He said: “There are some rumours that Vincenzo Pisacane (Insigne’s agent) has aired a proposal from Tottenham to the Napoli owner, but from verifications made, the club claims there were never contacts between Paratici and Cristiano Giuntoli on the issue.
“The timing seems to me as quite a stretch. It doesn’t seem to me to be a feasible negotiation, because the English club don’t have high salaries”.
