Tottenham could look to assess Japhet Tanganga’s loan deal at FC Augsburg in January after he barely featured for the German side in the first half of the season.
That’s according to Kicker, who cover the player today and potential other transfer issues at the Bundesliga club moving forwards.
The newspaper explains that now Augsburg have swapped to a four at the back formation, the current number of six central defenders in the squad is too many and will need to be reduced.
Tanganga is one of those who could depart, having arrived on loan from Tottenham in the summer transfer window but struggled so far with injuries.
He took longer than planned to recover from an injury he picked up and while reports from the club say he is training well; he ‘hasn’t been an option’ for the first team so far.
That could force Tottenham into action as they hold the reins on the loan deal. Kicker say it is ‘quite possible’ that they will ‘reconsider the sense’ of the loan deal in the January transfer window if the situation remains unchanged.
In other words, if Tanganga’s situation doesn’t improve over the next month then Tottenham may consider taking him back and either using him themselves or sending him elsewhere.
