The last thing Manchester United will have wanted during the international break is for players to pick up injuries, but that’s unfortunately what’s happened with Marcel Sabitzer.
The Austrian, who is on loan at Old Trafford from Bayern Munich until the end of the season, was one of the stars for his country in their win over Azerbaijan, picking up two goals and an assist, but is now a doubt to face Estonia in their next game after he came off in the second half with some pain in his knee.
Revealing the news was Ralf Rangnick, who Manchester United fans will know well from his stint as interim manager last season, in a press conference, relayed by Kurier, ahead of the Euro qualifier, set to take place Monday evening.
After Sabitzer skipped the final training session, the national team manager said: “It’s also a question of pain and pain tolerance.”
With the headline stating the Manchester United midfielder is a ‘doubt’ for the game against Estonia, everything points towards the injury not being overly serious.
Rangnick even suggested he was ‘optimistic’ the player could feature, with Kurier adding there are ‘enough candidates’ in the squad to take Sabitzer’s place should the decision be that he ends up having a rest before returning to the Red Devils.
