Over the past week or so, Queens Park Rangers have been working on appointing Julien Stéphan as their new manager.
Martí Cifuentes has a contract with the Championship side, but has been on gardening leave for a while, as the London club search for a new manager.
Le Parisien report on what has happened over the past few days in QPR’s efforts to appoint the 44-year-old.
The Frenchman has been without a job since leaving Stade Rennais in November and will return to the bench at the English club. Since he’s a free agent, QPR don’t have to negotiate with another club and only have to find an agreement with him.
The report states discussions between the parties have gone in the right direction. Le Parisien add the move is so advanced that ‘nothing seems to stand in the way of a definitive agreement.’
A source told the newspaper: ‘We’re in the final stretch.’
It’s claimed QPR are waiting to formally cut ties with Cifuentes in order to formalise Julien Stéphan’s arrival. They make no mention of the contract he’ll be signing with his new club.
Stéphan previously managed Stade Rennais and RC Strasbourg.
