Queens Park Rangers director Les Ferdinand believes there’s a lack of leaders in football nowadays, compared to when he was playing.
Ferdinand spent over 15 years in the English top flight, and will be best remembered for his spells with QPR, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, Ferdinand was quizzed whether footballers today are having it a lot easier compared to when he was making the breakthrough at QPR: “I feel a lot of teams lack leaders now. In the Premier League I don’t see players like Steven Gerrard, Paul Ince and Tony Adams any more. Society has changed, and players mature later as a result.”
Ferdinand made his name with QPR during a successful spell for the West London club in the Premier League. The former England international scored 80 league goals during his time at Loftus Road before his big money move to Newcastle United in 1995.

Ferdinand also had a brief spell as QPR’s caretaker manager in 2015.
