On Wednesday, El Mundo in Spain reported the Spanish police had detained Manchester City’s Matheus Nunes for an incident in September.
The Brazil-born Portugal international wasn’t selected for last month’s international break. He took advantage of the break to make a trip to Madrid, and during his time in the Spanish capital, he visited a nightclub.
The Manchester City player is accused of allegedly snatching a phone from another man in the nightclub’s toilet.
The media close to the Premier League winners dismissed arrest claims. They also stated there will be no further action taken against the 26-year-old for the alleged altercation.
PL Brasil got in touch with the midfielder’s mother, Catia Nunes, to get her response on the recent accusations against her son. She has quickly dismissed these claims and came out to defend her son.
“Look, this is all a big lie, they are bad and unhappy people trying to destroy my son’s career. Pure fake news. He actually went to Madrid with friends, but nothing they are saying [about the alleged crime] is true,” she said.
Matheus Nunes arrived at Manchester City from Wolves in August 2023. He was limited to just over 1,350 minutes from 29 matches in all competitions last season. The player has clocked in 227 minutes from six appearances this season.
