Dutch club PSV have officially announced that Marcel Brands is moving to Everton.
After months of speculation, the Eredivisie side have said goodbye to their technical director and revealed he’ll be moving to Goodison Park.
PSV have released a statement saying: ‘Marcel Brands has informed the Supervisory Board and his colleagues at PSV that he is leaving for Everton. The technical manager chooses a new challenge in the Premier League after eight seasons in Eindhoven.’
The man himself is quoted as saying: “It is a very difficult decision, but I think this is a good step at the right time. I have had a great time here… It’s really hard to let go of something that’s good, but I’m going to do that anyway. In my job, too, the Premier League is of course a great thing. It is the biggest competition in the world in all respects. I now get the chance to do something in my own way. I am really looking forward to that.”
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf were the first with links earlier this year and since then there’s been a steady stream of claims from the Netherlands.
Last week, Voetbal International and others presented the move as pretty much done. But this week local Eindhoven media suggested that may not be the case, perhaps through hope they could keep Brands at the club.
Everton have been restructuring this week, including parting company with Sam Allardyce on Wednesday morning. Brands will start work at the Premier League club on June 1st.
