Calciomercato this weekend brought claims from Sky Italia of Fiorentina interest in Yohan Cabaye.

The Crystal Palace midfielder is the ‘new name’ on the Florence club’s list as they look to add some strength to the middle of the pitch.

Despite that, the interest sounds lukewarm to say the least.

Calciomercato explain Cabaye’s salary is considered too high for Fiorentina, so he’d likely have to take a big pay cut to make the move to Italy.

It’s not only the player’s wages which concerns Fiorentina, the club are also mindful of the player’s age. Cabaye turned 32 years of age today and is coming into the autumn of his career.

So, Fiorentina think he’s too old and believe his wages would be too high for them to cover, it all sounds a little odd.

If they’ve got such reservations about what could be a difficult transfer with Crystal Palace anyway, then it’s a wonder why Cabaye is even being considered.
