Last week, we’ve covered reports from Brazil saying European sides were about to make new offers for Flamengo star Gerson.
Following claims that Tottenham Hotspur’s bid was turned down by the Rio de Janeiro side, it’s been said that Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea would make their offers on the 18th or 19th of June.
If the information is true, then things should be more clear in a couple of days. So we bring today the latest quotes coming from the local press and the club.
With Brazilian journalists calling the upcoming bids ‘fake news’, reporter Eric Faria, who’s the one who first reported it, was asked on Twitter about these dismissals. And he stands by his information.
“There’s nothing indeed. Yet. The info I gave, the others I don’t know, was that the proposal would arrive this week. Between the 18th and the 20th. Let’s wait.”
Flamengo have also been talking about the case. On their Youtube channel, director of football Bruno Spindel and vice-president Marcos Braz have claimed they haven’t received any offers so far.
“We’re not thinking about negotiating Gerson. One of the fundamental pillars is the maintenance of the group. We made and continue to make every effort to keep the group going. Mister has just renewed, and our dream is to fight to win all the titles this year. We’re not thinking about transferring Gerson, let alone thinkig about what we would do if that happened”, said Spindel (via ESPN).
Since Gerson’s father has been the one opening up about the interest from Tottenham and Chelsea, Braz has also poked him.
“There’s absolutely nothing, no proposal. Flamengo didn’t receive any questions, to say how much we would accept, which are normal procedures. His father is a little euphoric, maybe he’s happy to have a great proposal.
“Gerson is very important for Flamengo. Flamengo do not want to sell players, we want to keep this squad, but if there’s a proposal, we’re obliged to analyse it, even to be polite to the other club. Simple as that. There is no such concern today. There is absolutely nothing for Gerson.”
