Jules Kounde’s potential move to Chelsea was a subject for the final weeks of the transfer window, with it being claimed personal terms had been agreed and it was just a case of the Blues agreeing a deal with Sevilla.

Manchester City had tried to sign the Frenchman a year before, moving to take Ruben Dias from Benfica after their efforts for Kounde failed, and the press closest to Sevilla claimed Chelsea had offered even less than what had been proposed by their Premier League rivals.

Estadio Deportivo say the offer from Thomas Tuchel’s side ‘didn’t even reach €50m’, and they now suggest Chelsea weren’t serious in their efforts, playing transfer games and trying to suggest Kounde is one for the future rather than a finished article.

‘The proof’ of this, according to the claims, is the alleged €100m offer for PSG’s Marquinhos, a story which came out of France this week. On top of that is a reported future attempt to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus, by paying €120m.

Therefore, Estadio Deportivo don’t think Chelsea were ever really serious for Kounde, and only saw him as a potential gamble at a relatively low cost.
