Following all the initial reports saying Benfica are interested in the signing of Matteo Guendouzi from Arsenal, the Portuguese media now brings more positive news about this chase.
Newspaper O Jogo today features a story claiming that after getting in touch with the Gunners, the Eagles opened contacts with the midfielder’s entourage, and their first answer was positive.
Guendouzi is said to be ‘pleased’ with the chance of joining Benfica, as their possibility of fighting for titles and playing the Champions League both ‘seduce him’. That’s why he ‘opens the doors’ for the move.
And now that Arsenal and Olympique Marseille seem to have failed to reach an agreement for his transfer, the Lisbon side are trying to take then opportunity to get a deal.
O Jogo says Benfica will try to convince the Gunners to accept up to €10m for the midfielder.
They apparently expect that the fact Guendouzi is market as a ‘problematic’ player will help them get a discount.
Still, it’s worth pointing out that even the Portuguese media knows that amount could be too little.
Just yesterday, Radio Renascença had been reporting that Arsenal will demand at least €20m for Guendouzi this summer.
