Lionel Scaloni included Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero in the Argentina squad for the scheduled friendlies in the United States this month.
The Spurs defender couldn’t obtain a visa from the US embassy in England, due to the delay caused by a mourning period after Queen Elizabeth II’s death. He made a trip to Buenos Aires but didn’t get a visa on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Agencia Télam explained the defender was set to receive a visa yesterday and then travel to Miami the same day. It was also stated the Spurs man’s situation had angered Scaloni.
Unfortunately for the Tottenham player, there has been no change in his situation so far, according to TyC Sports.
If the 24-year-old were to not receive papers to travel to US in the next few hours, he will then return to England.
Argentina will face Honduras in Miami today and Antonio Conte’s man will miss the tie. He now risks being left out of the squad to face Jamaica next week. The entire situation around Romero has left the national team manager frustrated.
“Romero’s situation bothers me. He’s stuck in Argentina and can’t travel. It’s a problem, it’s the last date to get together and he can’t be there yet. I haven’t been able to talk to Lisandro [Martínez] yet, but if he’s fit, he’ll play,” Scaloni said, as quoted by TyC Sports.
