Thomas Strakosha has been linked with a move to Newcastle United for some months, and the club’s recent takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has only served to encourage transfer rumours.
The Magpies have been linked with countless players, yet the Lazio player’s name keeps popping up and now there seems an assumption that’s where the goalkeeper will be going, whether it’s a move in January or at the end of the current season.
Strakosha’s contract expires at the end of June, and therefore he’ll be available as a free agent at that time. He’s currently a back-up for Lazio, and has been picking up minutes in the Europa League.
Il Messaggero, an Italian broadsheet, reports he’s heading for the exit door, and as far as a destination is concerned it’s stated ‘probably Newcastle’.
There’s no further information with regards to talks, which is obviously a little odd, but then Newcastle would only need to open talks with Lazio if it was for a January transfer.
Should the Magpies be waiting until the end of the season, then they’ll hope their league situation won’t kill any possible deal.
