Hamburg’s plan to return to the Bundesliga big time is going reasonably well, after the first relegation in the club’s history.
They’re currently second in Bundesliga 2, three points behind FC Koln who have a game in hand. The top two get automatic promotion, just like the Championship, but the third placed team go into a play-off with the side which finished third from bottom in the top division.
If they achieve promotion, then Pierre-Michel Lasogga is set to be handed a new contract, but that won’t happen if they don’t, report SportBild.
The striker spent last season on loan at Leeds United. Ostracised from the HSV squad, the club wanted to get his wages off their accounts.
That didn’t happen either, and Lasogga was happy to stay in Hamburg.
With 19 goals this season, he’s shown it’s been a good decision.
SportBild say that should HSV fail to get promotion, then Lasogga will move, ‘probably to England’. There’s an assumption his has some clubs keen in English football following his Leeds United spell, and those 19 goals won’t do any harm.
