With AC Milan’s takeover now completed, there is a big excitement in the Italian media, as extra funding could see the Serie A side once again reach the heights their fans were so used to a decade or so ago.

In order to achieve this, financial backing will be needed, and a few stars will need to be brought in to improve what is a good, but not great, squad.

One of the targets for the summer, and one the Italian media have been trying to send to San Siro for quite some time now, is Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas.

While the former Arsenal star has been enjoying a bit more time in Antonio Conte’s plans recently, he still hasn’t broken the 1000 minute mark in the Premier League, and at 29, in what should be the prime of his career, something needs to change.

This is where AC Milan come in, with Corriere dello Sport on Thursday explaining the Chelsea star is top of the Italian club’s list for the summer.

They write: “Marco Fassone (external advisor) has highlighted Cesc Fabregas as the champion needed to be the leader of a squad already well set up, but lacking a prestigious element capable of making the difference.”

Clearly not top of Conte’s list, and with Chelsea likely to overhaul their squad for their upcoming 2017/18 Champions League, Fabregas could very well exit Stamford Bridge in the summer if the right offer comes along.

Furthermore, with Suso at the club, and Gerard Deulofeu thoroughly enjoying himself under Vincenzo Montella, there’s already a small Spanish welcoming committee there.
