Newcastle United were credited with an interest in Boca Juniors’ Kevin Zenón in the first half of this season.

In November, Pasión Fútbol stated the Magpies won’t hesitate to make an approach for him. A month later, L’Interista said Newcastle were in pole position to sign him in January, but obviously no deal took shape.

Fast forward to March and Boca Noticias now provides the latest on Newcastle’s interest in the 23-year-old.

The Tyneside club have been following the midfielder for long and want to sign him in the summer window. The report adds Newcastle’s desire to secure the Argentine’s services has put Boca Juniors president Juan Román Riquelme ‘on alert’.

Operating mainly as a wing-back, he managed six goals and seven assists from 46 games for his club last year.

This year, manager Fernando Gago has used Zenón mainly in the middle of the pitch and he’s made 11 appearances so far.

The Newcastle target has lost prominence since Gago arrived at Boca Juniors in October. Therefore, the report states his sale could be beneficial for both parties.

Zenón’s contract lasts until December 2028, and there’s no mention of the fee needed to please Boca Juniors. Earlier claims have stated that he has a $15m release clause in his contract.
