Real Betis president Ángel Haro García has said it appears that Giovanni Lo Celso has landed on his feet at the club after returning from Tottenham Hotspur.
The president has been speaking to Onda Cero about the Argentine, who has been shining since his return in the summer.
The 28-year-old rejoined the Spanish side in a €5m deal with Tottenham in the summer after a miserable few years with Spurs following a €32m move in June 2020.
He only managed ten goals and eight assists in 108 games for Tottenham, never living up to his price tag or the player he’d previously shown he was at Betis.
The midfielder never appeared to have settled in London, failing to impress a series of Tottenham managers to give him an extended spell in side and even heading out on loan to Villarreal.
Those struggles have quickly been forgotten at the beginning of this season, though, as he’s managed five goals in five games, and five in his last four games.
He’s hit the ground running and Haro believes it’s a simple case of both parties being made for each other.
“(We expected him to) perform at a similar level to the one he had here, but he is performing above his level in these matches,” he said.
“It seems that he is made for Betis, and he has landed on his feet. We are happy with the performance, and he is happy and content in Sevilla.”
Sadly for Betis, Lo Celso will be out of their clash with Legia Warszawa in the Europa Conference League this evening, a decision that has raised some eyebrows.
Haro has moved to ease those fears, though, insisting they’re simply being cautious with their star man.
“It is a technical decision by the coach, the medical team, and the sporting management,” he added.
“(It) has to do with a player who is being fundamental, and we have to be careful because he has a lot of games to play at the top.”
