Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has been cut from the Brazil squad for the games against Chile and Bolivia, report Globo Esporte.

Brazil are already qualified for the Qatar World Cup, but Ederson will have been keen to be part of the squad, as he continues to try and convince manager Tite that he should be considered ahead of Liverpool’s Alisson.

The Manchester City player has already been facing an uphill battle, and his situation got a little more complicated after Cláudio Taffarel, who is Brazil’s goalkeeping coach, took up a similar role with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

At the time of that appointment there were suggestions in Brazil that the situation would be unfair on Ederson, with Alisson obviously having the advantage of working with Taffarel, who will have a part in deciding who starts in goal, at Liverpool on a daily basis.

Globo Esporte say Ederson ‘presented with gastroenteritis’ as the Brazil team met. He’s been replaced by Everson, from Atlético-MG, who is getting his second call-up.

Manchester City will hope Ederson enjoys some rest and is well when the Premier League restarts.
