Even though Pep Guardiola has already confirmed that he’s expecting Julian Alvarez to join Manchester City this summer, there are still some in Argentina who are unsure about when he’ll complete the move.
When River Plate agreed his sale in January this year, they managed to hold him on a loan until June. Reports at the time even claimed he could stay for an extra six-months or even a year, although it now doesn’t really seem like happening.
The last one to answer that question was vice-president Matias Patanian. Speaking to the local media this week, he made it clear that Alvarez should be moving to Manchester City in the coming months.
“Everything seems to indicate that he’s leaving in June, we have to be prepared for that,” said Patanian (via River El Mas Grande).
The same issue had already been addressed by club president Jorge Brito last week (via Tyc Sports). On that occasion, the official even referred to Pep Guardiola’s comments as a sign that Manchester City are taking Alvarez to England this summer.
“Because of comments that we have already heard from Guardiola himself and those that they make to us, we always have to analyse the worst scenario from the sporting point of view and that is that he leaves in July.”
“Formally, they will inform us about the date, but from the gesture and the conversation, everything would indicate that Julián is going to leave in the middle of the year.
“We are going to give the battle until the last minute, but we cannot go against what was agreed and the player’s career.”
