Earlier on Thursday, we covered a report from France stating that John Textor’s acquisition of Lyon could be made official today.
This came from L’Equipe, who suggested everything seemed to be in place for the Crystal Palace co-owner to officially buy the Ligue 1 club.
There was, however, a suggestion that it could be delayed a bit further, and it all depended on whether the Premier League gave their endorsement to the deal due to Textor’s position at Selhurst Park.
Well, the French newspaper were correct, as L’Equipe, publishing an update on their website, report the sale of Lyon will ‘probably be pushed back by a few days’.
They explain it should now happen this weekend because of a ‘final administrative detail’, and the Premier League are at fault.
The body were meant to send the ‘final piece’ that would complete the big jigsaw, which was a ‘written agreement’ because of Textor’s shares at Crystal Palace, but that ‘document still hasn’t arrived in the hands of the lawyers’.
A source close to the deal told the newspaper: “From a purely technical point of view, all the elements for the deal to be closed are there. Everything should be sorted this weekend, because we are waiting for the approval from the Premier League in a day or two. They reacted very quickly, because it could have taken a lot longer.”
Therefore, the Crystal Palace co-owner should get his new club in a matter of days, and L’Equipe state ‘optimism remains at all levels’ in Lyon that the deal will get done.
