If Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea has been one Italian and English football drama this summer, then Jorginho to Manchester City has been another.

There’s been no secret about Pep Guardiola wanting the midfielder, and the player’s agent has spoken repeatedly about the Manchester City interest and his client’s desire to make the move to the Premier League champions.

But just like Chelsea and Sarri, Jorginho to Manchester City dragged out, and now Napoli’s president has spoken about the player’s choice.

Aurelio De Laurentiis has said it’s not about transfer fee, Jorginho himself prefers Chelsea to Guardiola’s option.

TMW quoted him as saying: “It was decided to accept the requests that started from City and I will have to apologise to them… but the player, if he prefers London to Manchester, and I can understand, then if Chelsea pays him more I can understand more and I can’t do anything about it … Jorginho at Chelsea does not depend on Sarri.”

The tough negotiating Napoli boss also talked about Sarri moving to Chelsea, and that seems like it’s coming to a conclusion too: “Sarri-Chelsea is on the finishing line, then it depends only on him. My lawyers have drafted a text that has been submitted to his lawyers and then we can see.”

Of course Chelsea still need to work out what they’re going to do with Antonio Conte, but it now seems they can take Sarri from Napoli without too much trouble. After such a long process, there will certainly be relief.
