With Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo forming a solid partnership in Chris Smalling’s and Eric Bailly’s injury absence, you would be forgiven to think that José Mourinho’s hunt for a new defender could be put on the back burner until the end of the season.
Heck, even the man himself admitted that Phil Jones’ form had made him rethink a few things.
However, The Sun, going off a line at the end of a Daily Record article from a few weeks ago, report that Manchester United are very keen on Hoffenheim defender Nicklas Süle.
Giving an interview in Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday, the player was asked about the interest of Inter Milan and AC Milan in his services, but Süle, currently evolving in the Bundesliga, only has one destination in mind.
He said: “In the past they’ve had great players, the names of the clubs have weight, the city is nice, the fans are warm, but they’re declining. For someone in the Bundesliga, it’s a step down because they haven’t qualified for Europe for some years. I prefer the Premier League.”
Of course, Manchester United’s track record at qualifying for the Champions League hasn’t been great in recent years, but you would think the prospect of joining a team with the likes of Paul Pogba and José Mourinho would be enough of a draw.
Plus, they play in the Premier League…
