Bordeaux president Stephane Martin has been speaking to L’Equipe about the club’s situation and possible transfers during the winter window.
Brazilian attacker Malcom has impressed hugely this season and already been linked with moves to some of Europe’s biggest clubs, but Martin is adamant the player is going nowhere in January: “Malcom will not leave this winter.”
On potential Bordeaux incomings, the French newspaper asked Martin about the possibility of signing Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City.
The French defender was much linked with a move during the summer but has been a used member of Pep Guardiola’s squad, and Martin seemed to rule out a permanent move, which keeping a loan chance open: “He, in this case, is not accessible to us. But yes, loans will be considered. It would obviously be better to be part of a longer-term construction, but you also have to be pragmatic. We are in a World Cup year and some famous players are not playing enough.”
Given France’s injury problems ahead of Euro 2016, and how far Didier Deschamps had to go down his list if central defenders, Mangala’s hopes of World Cup inclusion aren’t over just yet.
But if Guardiola feels he needs the defender until the end of the season then it’s very unlikely he’ll be leaving Manchester City.
