Belgian youngster Dennis Praet could be leaving Anderlecht this summer, with just one year left on his current deal.
Several top European clubs have been repeatedly linked to Praet, but recent reports have suggested Southampton could very well be interested.
Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws carried quotes a few days ago from the player about his future. He was asked about interest from Sevilla, Southampton and Sampdoria, to which he replied: “Those are three great clubs. I have always said that the Spanish league suits my playing style the most, but Serie A and the Premier League are top leagues.
“It remains to be seen, and if Anderlecht don’t reach an agreement, then I’ll gladly stay another year. I feel that there is a fresh wind blowing through the club and I’m still very happy.”
Italy’s Calciomercato claim Praet said Anderlecht have every right to demand €10m for him, which is something he never said.
“Normally, Anderlecht would want to sell me, because I’m going to the last year in my contract. I also think of myself. I’ve been playing five seasons in the first team of Anderlecht, and I have a lot of enthusiasm for a new challenge.
“It is also true that Anderlecht have stuck a price on my head, and they do not want to go under that. It is their full right to demand the price if they think I’m worth so much.”
It was HLN who mentioned the €10m figure, not Praet. The youngster seems to be maintaining the right attitude, and doesn’t appear to be in a rush to leave.
Praet had 6 goals and 9 assists to his name in all competitions last season, and Southampton surely have the money to sign him should they be genuinely interested.
