Over the past month or so, the idea that Barcelona could try and sign Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot has been doing the rounds in Spain.
The club are struggling a bit, especially in the Champions League; a competition they were knocked out of this week after failing to make it through the group stages.
That’s why they are panicking a bit, and Sport in Spain explain they are bringing some plans forward, and will make ‘a minimum of two’ signing in the January transfer window.
One of the areas they want to strengthen is the right-back position, which is where the Manchester United defender comes in.
It’s said Barcelona have ‘a problem’ at that position, where Xavi has been using Sergi Roberto, or the likes of Ronald Araujo and Jules Koundé, but they want a ‘specialist who ends the debate once and for all’.
With this in mind, they ‘enquired about the option’ of Manchester United’s Dalot, but they appear to have been sent back where they came from, because Sport state that ’it will be practically impossible to get him out of the Premier League’.
Part of that, one can imagine, is the fact Erik ten Hag has used him in every single game this season since taking over at Old Trafford, making him one of the more integral pieces of the Dutchman’s plans.
Whether that is the case long-term remains to be seen, but, for now, Dalot appears to be one of the few untouchables at Manchester United.
