Deportivo La Coruna may not have it all their own way this summer when they’re expected to try and make Carles Gil’s loan from Aston Villa permanent. Former Valencia player Gil wasn’t able to establish himself under more than one manager at Aston Villa, and a temporary return to his native Spain looked to suit everybody.
In March, Marca quoted Gil as saying: “The first thing is to talk to Aston Villa. Here I am very happy, but now the priority is to achieve the goal of salvation. I hope I can stay.”
Depor are now looking good for La Liga survival, although they’re not safe yet, and that would make a deal with Aston Villa likelier. However, Mundo Deportivo claim that Real Betis are now also interested, keen to add a player who can play on both wings.
Real Betis watched the Aston Villa owned player against his old club Valencia at the weekend, and whilst Depor lost 3-0, Gil came out of it quite well. The 24 year old has a Villa contract until June 2019, but returning to play under Steve Bruce is considered unlikely.
The extra interest should help Aston Villa get a better deal.
