A Juventus ‘acceleration’ for Paul Pogba should not be ruled out in January, with the Serie A side exploring the possibility of bringing the midfielder back to the club.
That’s according to Sport Mediaset, who say that there has been talk at the club ‘for some time’ that Pogba could make a return to Italy.
The Manchester United midfielder was heavily linked with Real Madrid throughout the summer transfer window, with Zinedine Zidane a big fan of his compatriot.
Ultimately a move never happened, though, with Manchester United sticking to their guns over their asking price and Madrid never getting close to it.
A long-term stay at Old Trafford seems unlikely, however, and now Juventus may be ready to rival Madrid in the bidding, with Sporting Director Fabio Paratici recently heading on a ‘mission’ to London to work on a possible deal.
Sport Mediaset say that the ‘first hypothesis’ is that the ‘Bianconeri assault’ to sign Pogba would start next summer, but it should not be ruled out that things could pick up in the January transfer window.
Manchester United are still demanding €160m for Pogba, but the midfielder’s refusal to sign a new deal at the club could change their stance and ask for €100m.
There is a ‘strong air of renewal’ at United at present and should they sign a new midfielder, the likes of Saúl and Kai Havertz for example, Pogba would be ‘accompanied safely to the door’.
